Designed to Help Address the Impact of High Electricity Costs for Blood Centres and Hospitals Throughout Australia
Sydney, Australia—15 August 2017—Terumo BCT, a global leader in blood component, therapeutic apheresis and cellular technologies, announced that it has entered into a distribution agreement with B Medical Systems, a Luxembourg-based, world-leading manufacturer of professional biomedical refrigeration and storage solutions for the safe transport and management of blood products. Under the terms of the agreement, Terumo BCT will act as the exclusive authorized distributor of B Medical Systems biomedical refrigeration and storage devices in Australia and New Zealand.
The range of B Medical Systems products is specifically designed to help address the impact of the high cost of electricity in markets like Australia. The B Medical Systems Green Line devices use environmentally friendly natural gases and are designed with several features to prevent cold loss and reduce heat emission. In addition to maintaining constant temperatures throughout the entire internal space of the refrigerators and freezers, features such as self-closing triple-pane doors and polyurethane insulation work together to prevent the loss of refrigeration.

Terumo BCT will market B Medical Systems blood bank refrigerators, deep and ultra deep freezers, contact shock freezers designed to fast-freeze plasma, pharmaceutical refrigerators, laboratory refrigerators and freezers, as well as cooling boxes used to maintain the temperature of blood products throughout transport. Each product is designed to help ensure operator convenience and operational reliability, supported by ongoing service and support managed by Terumo BCT.
In 2016, Terumo BCT first entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with B Medical Systems for the United States and Canada that has now been expanded to include Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the B Medical Systems blood bank refrigerators and freezers being registered with the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the products also hold AS3864-1 certification and adhere to the European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC.
