Lakewood Action Center Set to Provide Grocery Boxes for 5,700 Meals This Thanksgiving

11/18/2020
1 in 3 Coloradans are facing food insecurity. For many, this may mean choosing between paying for basic necessities and enjoying a warm Thanksgiving meal.

Lakewood, CO - The Action Center is preparing for its Annual Thanksgiving Distribution in which the human-service non-profit will provide over 1,400 meal kits to households in need this holiday season. These meal kits, filled with all the “fixin’s,” will create over 5,700 meals. This year’s event will take place at Lakewood-based Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies on Sunday, November 21, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“I think we all know how nice it is to share a warm Thanksgiving meal with our friends and families, and yet nearly 1 in 3 Coloradans are facing food insecurity. Couple this with the fact that nearly 40% of Colorado households have seen a drop in income since the COVID-19 pandemic began; many of these households will face an uncertain and difficult holiday season,” said Action Center Executive Director Pam Brier. “It’s because of our wonderful community and partnership with Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies that we will be able to help these households ensure they are able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal through our Thanksgiving Grocery Box Distribution in November. These grocery boxes will not only fill stomachs, they will fill homes with holiday warmth.”

The Action Center will be able to serve these families quickly and efficiently through the unique drive-thru distribution at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, a medical device company with about 2,500 Colorado employees. Each household will receive a meal kit filled with goods such as potatoes, vegetables, stuffing, gravy, dessert mixes, and a gift card for turkey or ham at local grocery stores.

“Supporting The Action Center’s annual Thanksgiving meal distribution is a tangible way for our employees to help unlock the potential of our community by providing both financial and volunteer support,” said Claudia Formiga, Director of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies. “As many families face economic uncertainties, helping families share a Thanksgiving meal is especially meaningful in 2020.”
