In addition to traditional healthcare, insurance and retirement savings benefits, Terumo BCT offers a robust wellness program, education assistance and other unique benefits that foster an environment for our associates to excel in and out of the office.

Healthy Choices, Healthy You

In the United States, Terumo BCT continues to build and cultivate its wellness program, branded "Healthy Choices, Healthy You." The program is based on three pillars of health: emotional, physical and financial. The program continues to evolve to meet the needs of associates and their families, and is designed to help associates look at their lifestyle habits and make modifications to improve their quality of life. Targeting modifiable behaviors helps associates change habits and, in the long term, can prevent chronic health conditions. Key components of our wellness program include:

  • Biometric screenings and other health assessments
  • Online wellness portal where associates and spouses receive points for completing health screenings and challenges
  • Mapped running, cycling and walking paths around the campus
  • Two full-time on-site registered nurses, a full-time fitness center manager and a part-time wellness coach
  • Monthly well-being themes and Knowledge Series

 

 
 
Highlights of our 2017 wellness program include:
  • 76 percent utilization of Fitness Center in 2017 (3 percent Increase from 2016) Over 200 personal training sessions in 2017
  • 271 associates participated in 14 Knowledge Series in 2017 (17 percent increase in associate attendance over 2016)
  • 1,022 associates participated in incentive challenges/programs, including almost 400 global associates
  • Added wellness coaching as a requirement for associates to receive the wellness discount for health benefits
  • 926 wellness coaching appointments discussing physical, emotional and financial wellbeing
 

 

We also encourage wellness with our global associates. Each year, we host wellness challenges, a friendly competition for bragging rights and fun prizes among associates. In 2017, the Global Relay Challenge had 616 associate participants, Measure Your Muscles had 105 participants and the Body Composition and Flexibility Screening had 83 participants.

In FY 2017, our site in Trivandrum, India opened an onsite Health and Wellness Centre.

As an incentive, associates who participate in wellness activities and get regular medical, dental and vision screenings receive points through our Wellness Portal which can be redeemed for gift cards. In 2017, we saw a 71 percent increase in orders placed through the portal.

Our commitment to healthy associates has earned Terumo BCT two top honors in 2017.

For the third year in a row, Terumo BCT has been recognized as one of 2017 100 Healthiest Employers in America in recognition of our associates' commitment to improving their health and taking advantage of our exceptional corporate wellness program. We were ranked 22 out of 100 companies on the list.

In addition, for the first time, Terumo BCT has received the Gold Workplace Health Achievement recognition from the American Heart Association for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace.

Lakewood Campus Amenities

Our global headquarters in Lakewood, Colorado is home to more than 2,500 associates who can enjoy a wide array of amenities that support our commitment to wellness and sustainability.

  • 53-acre campus with easy access to walking paths and extensive outdoor gathering spaces Multiple on-site cafeterias with fresh food options
  • Tobacco-free campus (prior to implementation, more than 50 associates took advantage of company-offered classes, tools, support and free nicotine gum and patches)
  • EcoPass for all associates with a light rail station adjacent to campus
  • On-site fitness center with 24/7 access and free classes
  • On-site occupational health clinic staffed by two full-time nurses
  • On-site wellness coach

 

Global Education Assistance

Lifelong learning is a core value at Terumo BCT. We make learning accessible to every associate, regardless of role or location, and we encourage them to participate in opportunities for both personal and professional development. During 2017, 137 associates received more than $350,000 in tuition assistance through our Global Education Assistance Program bringing our five-year total investment in this program to more than $1.5 million.

Each year, the company honors associates around the globe who have balanced the rigors of work, life and academic studies. The Honor Roll Class of 2017 was made up of 18 associates from all areas of the company who have earned degrees in the past 12 months. A luncheon and ceremony with our CEO is held each year to recognize their great achievements.
