Advancing technology and expanding access for patients globally

Antoinette Gawin is president and CEO of Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies and Senior Group Managing Executive Officer of Terumo Corporation [TSE: 4353], a 105-year-old global healthcare company headquartered in Tokyo. In these roles, she leads investments and innovation to unlock the potential of blood and cells for patients in more than 160 countries. Her leadership is guided by the belief that every patient deserves access to life-changing medical technologies, regardless of where they live.

Since joining Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies in 2016 and becoming CEO in 2019, Antoinette has led significant transformation across the business. She returned the company's blood collections and therapeutic technologies business to growth, shifted investment to address unmet needs in Africa, China, and Latin America, and expanded capabilities that help patients with rare and complex diseases access care. She also guided the company through the COVID-19 pandemic while transforming its global manufacturing footprint and delivery systems. Under her leadership, Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies has accelerated innovation, expanded into the cell therapy and source plasma markets, and strengthened its ability to serve patients globally.

Antoinette brings more than 30 years of experience across finance, strategy, operations, and commercial leadership. Early in her career, she served on GE's Corporate Audit Staff and supported Jack Welch's M&A activities before assuming leadership roles across GE Information Services, GE Digital Energy, GE Capital and GE Healthcare. She later joined Baxter Healthcare, where she built commercial and market access capabilities before leading enterprise transformation programs for the Office of the CEO.

Raised in rural Michigan, Antoinette credits her upbringing with instilling the practical, action-oriented mindset that shapes her leadership and commitment to equal patient access. While still "smitten with the mitten," she now calls Colorado home and brings a global perspective informed by living and working throughout North America and Europe.

Antoinette serves as a trustee of The CEO Center (formerly CED, The Committee for Economic Development), a board advisor to startups ResQ and Nivalon, and a board member of Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) and the Fitzsimons Innovation Community. She has also held leadership positions within AdvaMed, helping shape industry policy and regulatory dialogue.

Her recent recognitions include The CEO Center's “Distinguished Leadership Award” and the Denver Business Journal's “Outstanding Women in Business” (2026) and “Most Admired CEO” (2024) honors.

Antoinette earned bachelor's degrees in economics and English from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in health policy from DePaul University. She is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and has completed executive education at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. A lifelong learner, she also trained at Chicago's renowned Second City.
