Where Cells Thrive:
Hollow-Fiber Perfusion Technology

For cell cultured on the Quantum Flex platform, thriving means:

  • Ready access to fresh media, waste removal and gas exchange over micrometer distances
  • A robust environment for both suspension and adherent cell culture
  • Precisely controlled, low-shear expansion
  • Reduced usage of valuable reagents

Cell Types and Applications Successfully Performed on Quantum Flex

Suspension Cell Expansion

  • T cells
  • T-regs
  • Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs)
  • CAR-T cells
  • CD34+ cells

Adherent Cell Expansion

  • Human pluripotent stem cells (ESCs, iPSCs)
  • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
  • Fibroblasts
  • Endothelial cells
  • Neural stem cells (NSCs)

Applications

  • Viral vector production using adherent and suspension HEK293 cells
  • Exosome production

Simplify and De-Risk Your Process

Performance varies by user and is dependent on customer processes and materials.

How It Works

Hollow-Fiber Perfusion Bioreactor

Cell Culture Within the Bioreactor Using Hollow-Fiber Perfusion Technology

For suspension culture, complete media and reagents are gently pumped into both ends of the IC loop; main feeding and gas exchange are achieved via higher flow rate through the EC loop.

For adherent culture, feeding is achieved through low flow rate through the IC loop, while gas exchange is achieved via higher flow rate through the EC loop.

Compare Cell Culture Flasks to Automated Cell Culture

Flasks

Labor-intensive, manual process

Quantum system
Quantum Flex

Automated, customizable process

Possibility of variation between lab personnel and each culture

Reproducible process and a high degree of scalability

Large number of open steps through the process

Functionally closed system from cell loading through harvest

Temperature fluctuations as flasks are moved in and out of the incubator

Continuous control of temperature

Manual pipette process to feed cells and remove waste

Automated perfusion system and customizable control of cell feeding and waste removal

Cell harvest spans hours/days*

Cells harvested in as little as 20 minutes

*Dependent on the number and capacity of flasks
