David Perez
Chief Executive Officer
Terumo BCT
Chairman, Blood Management Business Division, Terumo Corporation

David Perez is the chief executive officer of Terumo BCT, chair of Terumo Corporation's Global Blood Management business and an elected member of the Terumo Corporation's board of directors and executive management committee.

Leading Terumo BCT for nearly two decades, David is known for his engaging management style focused on results and relationships. His relentless attention to business fundamentals and operational excellence enables the company to grow, innovate and diversify.

Strategically guiding the company through several ownership structures, he has extensive experience leading complex, multi-national businesses and cross-cultural organizations. David's leadership at Terumo BCT has driven the company to create new markets, expand the global business and diversify its product portfolio and customer support offerings.

Today, Terumo BCT delivers life-changing healthcare innovations, while maintaining a strong global brand recognition and a leadership position within each of its three business areas and 11 product categories.

Virtually all the company's revenue stems from innovations created internally. David is committed to the continued investment in R&D to develop innovations that become industry standards, improve clinical outcomes and lower customers' costs.

Serving the needs of customers and patients in more than 130 countries, Terumo BCT employs more than 6,000 worldwide associates in five regional headquarters and six manufacturing facilities.

Prior to David's tenure, seven out of every 10 dollars generated by the company were from U.S. customers. Today, more than 65 percent of the company's revenue is generated internationally. Under David's leadership, annual revenue has grown almost sixfold nearing $1 billion, contributing to significant profit growth, cash flow generation and shareholder value.

David also serves on numerous boards and councils, including AdvaMed, the National Blood Foundation and the Medical Device Innovation Consortium.

Antoinette Gawin
Terumo BCT

Antoinette Gawin is the president of Terumo BCT and will also become the chief executive officer on 1 April 2019. This mission-driven biomedical company, with 2017 revenue of nearly USD $1 billion, is focused on unlocking the potential of blood and cell-based therapies. The innovative medical device company strives to advance healthcare, broaden treatment options and improve patient outcomes through its technologies within the sectors of blood banking, transfusion medicine and regenerative medicine.

Antoinette focuses on how Terumo BCT will continue to evolve with healthcare’s rapid changes to meet more patients' needs globally. She believes medical device manufacturers must change and go beyond equipment to think about services, data management and new geographies where people do not yet have access to the technologies that can advance their health and lives. Antoinette is ensuring that Terumo BCT continues to focus on service and helping our customers solve problems—enabling them to better serve patients.

She has nearly 30 years of experience directing diverse global teams and transformational change. Building from a foundation in finance, operations and customer service, She has led joint ventures and acquisitions, as well as all aspects of marketing, strategic planning and commercial operations for divisions of companies in the healthcare, information technology and energy sectors.

Antoinette joined the company in 2016 and previously served as the executive vice president, global commercial. She was responsible for leading the company’s global sales, services, marketing and commercial teams.

In her past leadership roles at Baxter Healthcare, she oversaw global market access and commercial excellence, strategy and commercial operations. For more than 20 years prior, Antoinette worked at GE Corporate and a number of subsidiaries, including GE Healthcare Technologies, GE Industrial and Power Systems and GE Information Services.

Antoinette is involved in many civic organizations, including American Friends of Watershed Trust Organization, a nonprofit focused on sustainable access to clean water in India. She lives in Colorado with her family where they enjoy the outdoors and the performing arts.

Rusty Spinney
Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Global Operations
Terumo BCT

As chief financial officer and executive vice president, Rusty Spinney has worldwide responsibility for all finance functions at Terumo BCT. He also spearheads the company's global operations organization. In finance, Rusty oversees accounting, tax, treasury, finance, and planning and analysis. In operations, he leads manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and procurement.

Rusty also serves as a corporate liaison with Terumo Corporation, aligning budgeting, forecasting, month-end and quarter-end reporting processes, strategic plan financials and all other financial matters, including meeting requirements for Japan's equivalent of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Rusty's expertise spans corporate finance, governance and policy, capital markets, international business and Sarbanes-Oxley Act implementation, as well as mergers, acquisitions and business integration.

Prior to his current role, Rusty held the position of vice president of finance and corporate controller, in which he was responsible for global financial reporting, technical accounting and financial controls across all world regions. Prior to joining Terumo BCT, he held leadership and financial management positions at Quiznos, Inc. and Molson Coors, and he served as the European controller for Bass Brewing operations, based in England. He also provided business and advisory services for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Rusty earned his bachelor's degree in business finance from Colorado State University.

Chockalingam Palaniappan, PhD
Executive Vice President, Innovation and Development
Terumo BCT

Dr. Palaniappan, (known as Palani), has global responsibility for the strategic direction and execution of the following for Terumo BCT; I&D Project Management Office, Ideation and New Technology Ventures, Grants Management, Quality, Process Engineering, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs and Scientific and Clinical Affairs.

Palani brings more than 25 years of experience in product and project development, engineering, scientific research, and global business and technology management.

Prior to joining Terumo BCT, he was the vice president of research and development at Life Technologies, where he led the cellular analysis division. He has also held leadership positions at GE Healthcare, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and the University of Rochester.

Palani has contributed to 25 scientific journals and publications throughout his career. He earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu, India, and his doctorate in biological sciences from Northern Illinois University. His post-doctoral research was completed at the University of Rochester and was focused on the mechanism of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication and reverse transcriptase-mediated drug resistance in HIV.

Hiroshi Nagumo
Senior Vice President, Blood Center Solutions and General Manager, Japan
Terumo BCT

Hiroshi Nagumo serves as the global leader of our Blood Center Solutions business, as well as overseeing business operations in Japan for Terumo BCT.

With more than 33 years of leadership experience with Terumo Corporation, he oversees commercial capabilities, sales and marketing. In previous roles he directed operations in Germany for Terumo Europe, managed medical products—including hospital disposable products—for a pan-European market, and worked with wound care products for Terumo-BSN Japan KK.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Dokkyo University in Japan.

Cindy Ng
Senior Vice President, Global Commercial
Terumo BCT

Cindy Ng serves as the senior vice president of global commercial for Terumo BCT, a nearly USD $1 billion, mission-driven biomedical company focused on unlocking the potential of blood and cell-based therapies. The innovative medical device company strives to advance patient care, broaden treatment options and improve patient outcomes through its technologies within the sectors of blood banking, transfusion medicine and regenerative medicine.

As a member of the leadership team, Cindy is responsible for front-line interactions with Terumo BCT’s customers globally. This includes sales, services, clinical support, distributor management, and regional and local marketing to deliver high-impact customer experiences and a world-class presence at the local level.

Cindy is a hands-on sales and marketing practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. Her commercial experience includes both direct and distributor sales and marketing roles with Roche, 3M and Sanofi. She transitioned to medical devices with Advanced Medical Optics (part of Abbott) and Pall Corporation. After Danaher Corp.’s acquisition of Pall Corp., she took on a new challenge to turn around its biopharmaceuticals business in China.

Since joining Terumo BCT in 2017, Cindy has built a strong operating foundation and leadership team across Asia Pacific, strengthened relationships with affiliates and distribution channels, and enhanced regional go-to-market strategies.

Cindy resides in Singapore and holds a bachelor's degree from the National University of Singapore. She enjoys reading and trying local cuisine in the places she visits.

Monte Smith
Senior Vice President, Strategy and Market Development
Terumo BCT

Monte Smith serves as senior vice president of strategy and market development for Terumo BCT, a nearly USD $1 billion, mission-driven biomedical company focused on unlocking the potential of blood and cell-based therapies. The innovative medical device company strives to advance patient care, broaden treatment options and improve patient outcomes through its technologies within the sectors of blood banking, transfusion medicine and regenerative medicine.

As a member of Terumo BCT’s executive management committee, Monte drives the strategic planning process, optimizing the company’s portfolio by identifying growth and diversification opportunities, including collaborations, partnerships and acquisitions. His work includes creating enterprise-wide strategies and driving market-based prioritization to promote profitable growth, while serving patients. Monte also leads multiple business areas, including therapeutic systems, autologous biologics, cell therapy technologies, pharmaceutical solutions and contract manufacturing.

Throughout Monte’s career in life sciences, he has been regarded as an executive with strategic vision and the ability to effectively lead teams across geographies. At Novo Nordisk, he focused on marketing the company’s biopharmaceuticals by leading multiple brands and sales teams throughout the U.S.

Over the course of the last three years at Terumo BCT, he shifted our therapeutic systems segment to focus on conditions of use, successfully leading efforts to gain regulatory approval for indications such as therapeutic plasma exchange for sickle cell disease.

In addition to having his Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification, Monte holds a master’s degree of business administration in marketing from the University of North Carolina. He and his wife live in Colorado where they enjoy time outdoors.

Mark Bishop
Senior Vice President, Associate and Organizational Effectiveness
Terumo BCT

As senior vice president, associate and organizational effectiveness, Mark Bishop is responsible for strategic direction and leadership of Terumo BCT's human resources, talent and organizational development, associate and community communications and enterprise portfolio management functions. This alignment focuses on improving associate engagement and performance, as well as fostering the ability to efficiently achieve Terumo BCT's strategic objectives and goals. In this role, he cultivates the mission, vision and values to align and enable the business strategy.

Mark's background comprises nearly three decades of leadership that includes starting a successful small business, advancing midsized organizations and executive leadership in a Fortune 500 organization. As an organizational leader, Mark has brought transformational change to organizations in a broad range of industries including printing, transportation and logistics, health care and medical device manufacturing. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and is active in their mission to cure blood cancers and improve the lives of patients and their families.

Prior to joining Terumo BCT, Mark served in leadership roles in Nations Way Transportation, Gambro Healthcare and DaVita.

Mark earned a bachelor's degree in human resources management from the University of Colorado and a master's degree in organizational development from Regis University.

Mike Wade
Senior Vice President, Global Technology
Terumo BCT

As senior vice president, global technology, Mike Wade has overall responsibility for the global information technology function. Mike also supports the organization's mission, vision and values through setting strategic direction to support global information systems requirements throughout Terumo BCT. Mike is responsible for providing leadership and direction for both long-term strategy as well as day-to-day operations, incorporating all functions and disciplines of IT, including project management, application development, operations, data security and infrastructure. He has over 25 years of IT experience in diverse industries including medical devices, financial services, banking, and oil and gas.

Prior to joining Terumo BCT, Mike held leadership and technology positions for Janus Capital Group, UMB Bank and Koch Industries, Inc. where he oversaw application and infrastructure capabilities, information security and project management. He has a bachelor's degree in management information systems from Fort Hays State University and a master's degree in business administration from Wichita State University.

Scott Larson
Senior Vice President, Legal and General Counsel
Terumo BCT

Scott Larson has served as senior vice president, legal and general counsel for Terumo BCT since 2007. As such, he serves as corporate secretary and chief compliance officer for the organization and is responsible for managing the general legal, commercial compliance, intellectual property and government affairs teams. Scott is active in the industry and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Biosciences Association and participates on the AdvaMed Legal Committee and Device and Diagnostics Compliance Group.

Prior to joining the company, Scott served as senior associate general counsel for Amgen Inc., supporting the commercial law function for its nephrology business unit and its Canadian operations. He has also served as general counsel for Gambro Healthcare Inc. and Coram Healthcare Corp. Scott began his career with Alston & Bird LLC in Atlanta.

Scott earned his doctorate in law from the Vanderbilt University School of Law and his bachelor's degree from Augustana College.
