David Perez is president and chief executive officer of Terumo BCT, chair of Terumo Corporation’s Global Blood Management business and an elected member of the Terumo Corporation’s board of directors and executive management committee.
Perez has led Terumo BCT since 1999 under Swedish ownership (COBE BCT and Gambro BCT), private equity ownership (CaridianBCT) and now the Japanese ownership of Terumo Corporation. His experience with multinational and cross-cultural operations, along with change management initiatives, helps Perez and his team achieve profitable growth with a diversified product portfolio.
As president and CEO, he guides the strategic direction, growth and execution of Terumo BCT’s comprehensive business portfolio. With more than 70% of revenue generated outside of the U.S., Perez’s leadership team reflects the diverse, global nature of the company. Together, the more than 6,000 global associates in five regional headquarters and six manufacturing facilities serve the needs of customers and patients in more than 130 countries.
In addition to his leadership with Terumo BCT and the Terumo Corporation, Perez also lends his more than 36 years of experience within the medical device and healthcare industries to numerous boards and councils.
Prior to joining Terumo BCT, Perez held leadership positions at UroTherapies Inc., Haemonetics® Corp., Caremark LLC, Coram Healthcare Corp. and Kendall. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Texas Tech University.
As chief financial officer and executive vice president, Rusty Spinney has worldwide responsibility for all finance functions at Terumo BCT. He also spearheads the company's global operations organization. In finance, Spinney oversees accounting, tax, treasury, finance, and planning and analysis. In operations, he leads manufacturing, supply chain, logistics and procurement.
Spinney also serves as a corporate liaison with Terumo Corporation, aligning budgeting, forecasting, month-end and quarter-end reporting processes, strategic plan financials and all other financial matters, including meeting requirements for Japan's equivalent of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Spinney's expertise spans corporate finance, governance and policy, capital markets, international business and Sarbanes-Oxley Act implementation, as well as mergers, acquisitions and business integration.
Prior to his current role, Spinney held the position of vice president of finance and corporate controller, in which he was responsible for global financial reporting, technical accounting and financial controls across all world regions. Prior to joining Terumo BCT, he held leadership and financial management positions at Quiznos, Inc. and Molson Coors, and he served as the European controller for Bass Brewing operations, based in England. He also provided business and advisory services for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Spinney earned his bachelor's degree in business finance from Colorado State University.
Dr. Palaniappan, (known as Palani), has global responsibility for the strategic direction and execution of the following for Terumo BCT; I&D Project Management Office, Ideation and New Technology Ventures, Grants Management, Quality, Process Engineering, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs and Scientific and Clinical Affairs.
Palani brings more than 25 years of experience in product and project development, engineering, scientific research, and global business and technology management.
Prior to joining Terumo BCT, he was the vice president of research and development at Life Technologies, where he led the cellular analysis division. He has also held leadership positions at GE Healthcare, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech and the University of Rochester.
Palani has contributed to 25 scientific journals and publications throughout his career. He earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences from Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu, India, and his doctorate in biological sciences from Northern Illinois University. His post-doctoral research was completed at the University of Rochester and was focused on the mechanism of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication and reverse transcriptase-mediated drug resistance in HIV.
As executive vice president, global commercial, Antoinette Gawin is responsible for leading the company's global sales, marketing and commercial teams.
Gawin is an accomplished business executive and inspirational leader who has nearly 30 years of experience directing diverse global teams and transformational change. Building from a foundation in finance, operations and customer service, she has led joint ventures and acquisitions, as well as all aspects of marketing, strategic planning and commercial operations, for divisions of companies in the health care, information technology, financial services and energy sectors.
Most recently, at Baxter Healthcare, she served in leadership roles overseeing global market access & commercial excellence, strategy and commercial operations. For 22 years prior to that, Gawin worked at a number of GE subsidiaries, including GE Healthcare Technologies, GE Industrial and Power Systems, GE Information Services and GE Corporate.
Living in Switzerland, London and the U.S. during her tenure at GE, she led global organizations and served in a broad range of influential roles, including chief marketing officer, chief executive officer and general manager, as well as other critical roles.
Gawin earned a master's degree in health policy from DePaul University School of Public Service; holds a bachelor's degree in economics and English from the University of Michigan; and completed the executive marketing series at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Hiroshi Nagumo is charged with leading direct sales, marketing and services and overseeing Japan business operations for Terumo BCT.
With more than 26 years of leadership experience with Terumo Corporation, Nagumo has extensive experience in sales and marketing leadership. In previous roles he directed operations in Germany for Terumo Europe, managed medical products—including hospital disposable products—for a pan-European market, and worked with wound care products for Terumo-BSN Japan KK.
Nagumo earned his bachelor's degree from Dokkyo University in Japan.
As senior vice president, associate and organizational effectiveness, Mark Bishop is responsible for strategic direction and leadership of Terumo BCT's human resources, talent and organizational development, associate and community communications and enterprise portfolio management functions. This alignment focuses on improving associate engagement and performance, as well as fostering the ability to efficiently achieve Terumo BCT's strategic objectives and goals. In this role, he cultivates the mission, vision and values to align and enable the business strategy.
Bishop's background comprises nearly three decades of leadership that includes starting a successful small business, advancing midsized organizations and executive leadership in a Fortune 500 organization. As an organizational leader, Bishop has brought transformational change to organizations in a broad range of industries including printing, transportation and logistics, health care and medical device manufacturing. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and is active in their mission to cure blood cancers and improve the lives of patients and their families.
Prior to joining Terumo BCT, Bishop served in leadership roles in Nations Way Transportation, Gambro Healthcare and DaVita.
Bishop earned a bachelor's degree in human resources management from the University of Colorado and a master's degree in organizational development from Regis University.
As senior vice president, global technology, Mike Wade has overall responsibility for the global information technology function and global software product development. Wade also supports the organization's mission, vision and values through setting strategic direction to support global information systems requirements throughout Terumo BCT. Wade is responsible for providing leadership and direction for both long-term strategy as well as day-to-day operations, incorporating all functions and disciplines of IT, including project management, application development, operations, data security and infrastructure. He has over 25 years of IT experience in diverse industries including medical devices, financial services, banking, and oil and gas.
Prior to joining Terumo BCT, Wade held leadership and technology positions for Janus Capital Group, UMB Bank and Koch Industries, Inc. where he oversaw application and infrastructure capabilities, information security and project management. He has a bachelor's degree in management information systems from Fort Hays State University and a master's degree in business administration from Wichita State University.
Scott Larson has served as senior vice president, legal and general counsel for Terumo BCT since 2007. As such, he serves as corporate secretary and chief compliance officer for the organization and is responsible for managing the general legal, commercial compliance, intellectual property and government affairs teams. Larson is active in the industry and serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Biosciences Association and participates on the AdvaMed Legal Committee and Device and Diagnostics Compliance Group.
Prior to joining the company, Larson served as senior associate general counsel for Amgen Inc., supporting the commercial law function for its nephrology business unit and its Canadian operations. He has also served as general counsel for Gambro Healthcare Inc. and Coram Healthcare Corp. Larson began his career with Alston & Bird LLC in Atlanta.
Larson earned his doctorate in law from the Vanderbilt University School of Law and his bachelor's degree from Augustana College.
